History:
The Dogo Argentino was originally a hunting dog, but also a good family dog, only if this breed is raised with a strict and loving hand.Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez started in 1928 with the establishment of a first standard.The Dogo Argentino is the national dog of Argentina.The breed arised in the year 1920 and his creator was Dr. Antonio N. Martinez.He wanted to create a strong and courageous hunting dog that was also a good guard and family dog.The demands that were put to the dog were high because the target were wild boars, pumas and jaguars. The fighting dog of Cordoba in Spain was a starting-point and the Dane was crossed into it even as the Mastin De Los Pirineos, the Bordeaux Dog, Boxer, Bull Terrier, the Pointer and Irish wolfshond.It has taken a long time to create this breed but in 1960 it was finally recognized by the FCI.The Dogo Argentino is a typical one-man dog and not a breed for beginners.He is very loyal to his family and friendly to children, but at the same time a good guard dog.In Argentina he is still used for hunting.
Appearance:
General appearance: it is a dog resembling to the Great Dane but than smaller, less elegant and has a short white coat.
Head: spherical (the skull is like the bulb biter type fitting), the line of the face and muzzle are hollow, so as it belongs to the type of smell.The face is as long as the skull, which means that the line connecting the two eyebrows, even far as the back of the head from the edge of the alveolar ridge of the maxilla.The line of the face must being slightly curved. The skull is formed by a massive brain, which is convex from front to back and across, the relief of the jaw and neck muscles.The occiputsknob should not put as strong, because of the neck muscles which completely dissolve; the neck is arched.The nose is deep black, wide nostrils.
Teeth: good scissors, not over-or undershot, it is strong, with well deployed and short teeth.
Ears: set high, standing or semi-erect.
Eyes: dark, overshadowed by the eyelids, which are bordered by dark or light. They should be far apart, the look is vivid and intelligent, yet also with a remarkable hardness.
Lips: the lips must be dry.So they should not hang.They must have a black pigment.The occiputsknob should not protrude.Because of the strong neck muscles and ligaments, this knot is not visible.
Neck: these must be strong and bent, but still show a certain grace.The throat and skin must be thick folds, like the Mastiffs and Bulldogs and is not pulled tight, like the Bull Terrier.
Chest: broad and deep.The idea of giving that large lungs are present.The sternum must get past the elbows.
Thorax: with lots of volume.Seen from the side, he must pass the elbows.
Withers: high ranking and strong, with great muscular development.
Spine: should be high at the withers, sloping bottom and the loins are slightly arched.

Forearm: must be straight and solid, with short and compact toes.

Coat: short, hard and shiny.
Color: white.Pigment skin patches are allowed.

He is quiet, calm, affectionate, obedient, loves company and appreciates the contact with his boss.He almost never barks.The Dogo Argentino can be aggressive toward other dogs.When he guarded his territory, he forces big respect.He has a firm but gentle upbringing because it is a sensitive dog.The Dogo Argentino must have a good social and charitable nature.
